Psyblog looks at why we have so much difficulty in trusting others. http://www.spring.org.uk/2010/04/the-trust-gap-why-people-are-so-cynical.php In one experiment people honoured the trust placed in them between 80% and 90% of the time, but only estimated that others would honour their trust about 50% of the time.
